ChemV12B, Organic Chemistry II
ChemV12B is the second half of the year-long sequence in organic chemistry, an upper division course that focuses on the properties and reactivities of biological molecules containing carbon. The course is required for chemistry and biology majors as well as a pre-requisite for medical school. Topics include continuing nomenclature of major functional groups, phyisical and chemical properties, multistep syntheses and mechanisms, NMR and GC analysis, SN1/SN2 versus E1/E2 competitive pathways, and redox reactions.
Students must pass ChemV12A/V12AL before enrolling in this course.
