ChemV12A, Organic Chemistry I
ChemV12A is the first half of the year-long sequence in organic chemistry, an upper division course that focuses on the properties and reactivities of biological molecules containing carbon. The course is required for chemistry and biology majors as well as a pre-requisite for medical school. Topics include nomenclature of hydrocarbons and major functional groups, chirality, syntheses and mechanisms, MS and IR analysis, thermodynamics, and SN1/SN2 versus E1/E2 competitive pathways.
Students must pass ChemV01B/V01BL before enrolling in this course.
